Get your green on, Amagansett and Montauk!

The annual Am O'Gansett Parade, a lighthearted take on St. Patrick's Day that bills itself as the world's shortest parade, happens on Main Street in the hamlet's commercial center on Saturday at noon. Joe LaCarrubba will serve as grand marshal. Beads, candy, fire trucks, and cupcakes are promised. The Amagansett Chamber of Commerce has asked that any residents wishing to join the shenanigans send an email to [email protected]

The next day, the 62nd Montauk Friends of Erin St. Patrick's Day parade steps off Sunday at noon from Edgemere Road, following a green-paint-lined route through downtown Montauk. As usual, there will be live music and an array of lively floats and community groups taking part. It's always well attended, so get there early for a good parking spot or use public transportation.

The Montauk grand marshal this year is Steve (Puck) Dolan, the longtime and now retired bartender at the Montauket, who is profiled in this week's Star.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. with the Montauk Chamber's soup sale at its visitor center on Main Street, serving as both a fund-raiser to defray the costs of putting on the parade and a way to keep warm on what will likely be a chilly, early spring day. Souvenir mugs come with the purchase.

Lessons From Seven Months on Two Wheels

When Eric Butte ditched his car for months on end, it wasn’t one of those official car-free pledges or hyped-up social media challenges. It wasn’t because gas prices are kind of insane again. Rather, he was really just curious. “It turned into a seven-month project that highlighted how many problems there are for alternative transport on the East End,” he said.
