Margaret M. Gural, who grew up in East Hampton, died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on March 20 following a heart attack. She was 82 years old. A resident of East Syracuse, N.Y., she had come to the South Fork because of the illness of her sister, Bridget A. Stavropoulous, who died only five days before her.
Ms. Gural and her sister were the daughters of James P. and Mary Gallagher McNally of East Hampton. They are survived by a brother, John McNally, who now lives in Vermont. Two other brothers, James P. McNally and Michael J. McNally, died before them.
Ms. Gural was born on Aug. 8, 1929, in East Hampton. She graduated from East Hampton High School and was employed by Bell Atlantic/Verizon until her retirement in 1980. Her sister had also been employed by the telephone company for a time.
Ms. Gural was said to have devoted herself to her family, including her husband, Chester Gural, who survives, as well as to her surviving sons, Chester Gural of East Syracuse and Timothy Gural of North Syracuse, N.Y. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as grand and great-grand-nieces and nephews. She had been married first to James R. Kane, who died in 1981.
A Mass of Christian burial was said on March 27 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in East Syracuse, of which she was a member. She was buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt, N.Y. Contributions in her memory have been suggested for the American Heart Association.
