Just under a third of East Hampton Town's 24,000 Long Island Power Authority customers were without electricity, according to the utility, as of Monday morning. LIPA posted on its Storm Center Web site that 6,965 East Hampton customers were remained blacked out in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene's brush of the area Sunday. It said it was assessing conditions and that no specific restoration times could be given at this point.
In all, LIPA said that just over 419,000 customers remained without power, 236,000 of them in Suffolk County. Southampton Town has 18,000 without electricity.
About 2,000 of Amagansett's roughly 2,800 LIPA customers were without power.
