East Hampton Town police have announced the arrest of a man they said is responsible for stealing almost a $126,000 worth of jewelry in a series of burglaries on the South Fork this year.

Justin T. Bennett, 35, of Fort Pond Boulevard in Springs was arrested Thursday after a months-long investigation that also involved the Southampton Town, Sag Harbor Village, and New York City police departments. Based on a description of the alleged thief, as well a large amount of jewelry recovered by the New York Police Department detective squad, the investigation zeroed in on Mr. Bennett, police said.

Mr. Bennett was to be arraigned Friday morning in East Hampton Town Justice Court in front of Justice Lisa R. Rana on 14 counts of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, along with two counts of attempted burglary, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of marijuana.
