Deepwater Forum Saturday

The East Hampton Group for Good Government has organized a panel discussion at the East Hampton Library at 3 p.m. on Saturday on aspects of the South Fork Wind Farm offshore turbine plan. Panelists will include representatives of the Deepwater Wind company that hopes to build the wind farm, environmental groups, and the commercial fishing industry.

Clint Plummer, a Deepwater Wind vice president, and Rodney Avila, the company's liaison to fishing interests, are to take part. Other panelists are Jenifer McCann of the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resource Center, East Hampton Town Trustee Rick Drew, Bonnie Brady of the Long Island Commercial Fishing Association, Gordian Raacke of Renewable Energy Long Island, Andrew Brosnan of the Surfrider Foundation's eastern Long Island chapter, and Robert DeLuca of the Group for the East End.

According to the organizers, the program is intended to help officials evaluate the challenges facing them and address the concerns of the public about the impact on fishing of the 15 turbines planned on a portion of Cox's Ledge, where they are to be sited about 35 miles east of Montauk and about 25 due south of Newport, R.I., in federal waters.

Underground cables linking the South Fork Wind Farm could run from either Wainscott or Napeague to an East Hampton Village-edge Long Island Power Authority substation.Deepwater Wind
