Southampton House Stars in New Showtime Series ‘Billions’

The house as it is seen in the series Showtime

A 12-bedroom Southampton Village house, 17,000 square feet in size and set on 7.5 acres, has a starring role in Showtime’s new series “Billions.”

Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, the true stars of the series, play a classic cat-and-mouse game as federal prosecutor and hedge-funder prey. But it is the decision by Mr. Lewis’s character to buy the house, at the end of Meadow Lane in Southampton, that sets the plot in motion.

In the series, the house is valued at $83 million, and it is likely that its owners, Michael and Margie Loeb, would be thrilled to make that kind of return on their $21 million investment. According to online records, they bought the property in 2003 and built the current house in 2006.

Since then, the house has been the site of many summer benefits, including parties for Phoenix House and a house tour for the Southampton Historical Museum in 2014. Zillow, an online property value tracker, estimates the house’s value at $16.7 million, but the website’s accuracy has been routinely questioned by local real estate agents as it pertains to South Fork properties. PropertyShark.com estimates its value at $32.5 million.

Back in 2012, the website Curbed Hamptons reported that the property was available for rent for $275,000 for the month of July, $137, 500 for a week, and $800 per hour. The link Curbed included to the Saunders website, which may have once posted this listing, is no longer active.

Mr. Lewis is shown walking on the beach in front of the house, swimming (naked) in the pool, and eventually celebrating its purchase with his fictional family.

When the Southampton Historical Museum held its tour of the house, it described it as having eight guest bedrooms, two staff rooms, and an attached guest cottage. Other rooms in the house include a billiard room, home theater, game room, art room, yoga studio, and gymnasium. The property also has its own zipline. What is most striking about the house, however, is its sweeping views of the bay and ocean.

Although the show’s official premiere is on Jan. 17, the first episode is available to stream online.
