The Playhouse Project, a program that provides master classes for high school music students on the South Fork and a chance for award winners to play with professionals, is offering an open jazz workshop tomorrow and Saturday, and an "all star" concert on Saturday evening.
Kate Baker, a jazz performer and teacher, will teach singers to perform standards in the jazz idiom, to phrase, and to begin improvising, according to a release. Instrumentalists, under the direction of Vic Juris, an educator and guitarist, will play in an ensemble, have a chance to improvise, and begin to master the art of swing.
The workshops will be held at the Playhouse, at 64 Huntting Lane in East Hampton, tomorrow from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The concert, a tribute to the great American composers, will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., also on Saturday.
All the events are free and open to the public. Those interested can reserve a place by calling Mirra Bank at 212-724-1686 or Kate Baker at 973-766-2589.
