A free staged reading of Bertolt Brecht’s 1939 play “A Life of Galileo” will be held at the Montauk Library on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Josh Gladstone, artistic director of the John Drew Theater, the reading will take advantage of a new translation that makes the play’s dialogue relevant to contemporary issues of humanism versus fundamentalism.
“A Life of Galileo” focuses on his last decades and the clash between science and dogma. Because the play involves 37 characters, Mr. Gladstone and a small company of professional actors will invite members of the audience to read along with the ensemble. No rehearsal is necessary, according to the library.
The cast includes Gerald Doyle, August Gladstone, Kate Mueth, John Shuman, Joe Brondo, Chloe Dirksen, and Mr. Gladstone.
