Paton Miller's 'Out of Shinnecock' Will Grace This Year's HIFF Poster

“ ‘Out of Shinnecock’ is from a series I’ve been painting since I moved here from Hawaii,”

Artwork by Paton Miller, who exhibits internationally, is featured on the poster for the 2018 Hamptons International Film Festival, which has been designed by Laurie Fink.  After leaving his home in Hawaii to journey through Asia in 1974, Mr. Miller arrived on the East End of Long Island with a collection of travel-inspired artworks that won him a scholarship from Southampton College. Graduating with honors, his career has included over 20 solo and numerous group exhibitions in New York City and throughout the United States.

“ ‘Out of Shinnecock’ is from a series I’ve been painting since I moved here from Hawaii,” Mr. Miller said. “Not being from here, certain scenes I witnessed struck me as iconic of life on the East End. They mostly have to do with fishing, both bay and ocean, and farming. As much as things have changed here, fishermen still fish and farmers farm.”

Mr. Miller noted how dramatically the festival had grown over the years. “It seems to me that often today’s painters make films. And both of our sons are filmmakers. Bravo to the Hamptons Film Festival!”

This article has been amended from the print version and an earlier online version to clarify that the 2018 Hamptons International Film Festival poster, with artwork by Paton Miller, was designed by Laurie Fink.
