Free Children's Art Workshop Wednesday

The Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center and Organizacion Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island are teaming up to sponsor an art workshop for children ages 8 to 14 on Wednesday afternoon. The project will be making model ships from recycled household materials.

Aurelio Torres, an East Hampton artist who is the grandson of the acclaimed Uruguayan artist Joaquin Torres-Garcia, will lead the workshop.

"I'd like to see the children experience the satisfaction of creating something wonderful out of simple recycled materials," Mr. Torres said in an announcement.

Children should take along items such as tin foil, paper towel or toilet paper rolls, broken costume jewelry, fabric, small old toys, and "anything that sparks the imagination."

The free art workshop runs from 4 to 6 p.m., and parents must call in advance to reserve a seat for their children. They may do so by calling OLA at 631-899-3441. The Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center is at 551 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike.
