The East Hampton Trails Preservation Society is accepting applications through April 15 for its 2014 summer student internship program.
Interns will learn about and help with trail maintenance, blazing, and clearing, and serve as assistants to hike leaders, with an eye toward developing the knowledge and skills needed to lead hikes themselves. They will also work on an independent project centered on a particular hike of approximately two hours, through which they will create a summary documenting the historical and natural highlights of the trail with photographs, maps, and text, which could be put online or distributed in a printed publication.
Interns will receive a $1,000 stipend following successful completion of the program.
The dates of the eight-week internship can be tailored to meet individual schedules, though interns must be available for eight three-hour sessions during June, July, and August.
Applicants must have turned 16 by December 2013, and be enrolled as a full-time high school or college student or preparing to begin college in the fall.
Applications and additional information can be obtained by sending an email to EHTPS@hotmail.com. Applications may be submitted electronically or by mail to East Hampton Trails Preservation Society, P.O. Box 2144, Amagansett 11930.
