Kudos to East Hampton Middle School

At its inaugural School Wellness Leadership Awards ceremony last Thursday, the Wellness Foundation honored the East Hampton Middle School for its long-term dedication to students’ health.

Lea Bryant, a health teacher, and Barbara Tracey, the school nurse, who have led the Bonac on Board to Wellness program for 13 years, accepted the award. The foundation recognized the school’s annual community 5K run (which will take place on Wednesday), the dance classes that culminate in the Mad Heart Ball, and a Chef Wars competition. The Bonac on Board program was praised for offering nutrition education and for advocating healthy items in the cafeteria and programs to combat bullying and help students manage stress.

The award was presented at the Muses banquet hall in Southampton during the foundation’s school wellness conference. Lisa Serrell, a physical education teacher at the Southampton Elementary School, was given the 2017 School Wellness Champion Award.
