South Fork Poetry: ‘The Lobster’

By Chet Kane
Margot Kane

Our summer celebrity.
Wrangled by Marlboro Man of the sea,
primordial weapons silenced by a rubber band.

Tenement tank housed, royal beast demeaned,
indolently waiting.

Precarious scale — it could cost.

Cooking awkward, a twinge.
Bright orange orgy.

Chet Kane of East Hampton is the author of “Inside the Hamptons,” a new collection of poems featuring photos by his wife, Margot Kane. He’ll read from it on June 14 at 1 p.m. at the East Hampton Library.
