STOP Day Saturday Offers Safe Disposal of Pollutants

Old paint, solvents, stale fuel, expired cleaning supplies, and pesticides are among the items that will be accepted at the East Hampton Town Recycling Center on Saturday. Morgan McGivern

STOP Day comes but twice a year, at least in East Hampton Town, during which residents can safely dispose of a range of household chemicals, stale fuel, and other potentially harmful materials. It will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the town recycling center on Springs-Fireplace Road.

Easy to remember, STOP stands for Stop Throwing Out Pollutants. Oil paint, pesticides, chemical aerosols, thinners, urethanes, engine coolant, and flammable materials will be accepted. Questions can be directed to the Sanitation Department at 631-324-7191.

A second yearly STOP day is generally held at the Montauk waste transfer station in the fall.
