For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has planned a month chock full of awareness events across the South Fork.
A health fair, with free clinical breast exams among other services, will be held tomorrow at the Montauk Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is not necessary.

A free program for women dealing with hair loss and skin changes due to chemotherapy and radiation will come to the Hampton Bays Library on Tuesday. From 1 to 3 p.m., women can learn beauty techniques and take home a makeup package worth $200. Registration is with the American Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345.

On Oct. 19, a shopping night at Dockers Waterside Marina and Restaurant in East Quogue will raise money for the Coalition for Women's Cancers at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Jewelry, clothing, and housewares vendors will be on hand and there will be a buffet from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10.

"Breast cancer awareness and the role of a patient navigator" will be the focus of a seminar at the Westhampton Library on Oct. 20 at noon. Participants will learn about diagnostic tools available at the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at the hospital, the importance of breast self-exams and mammograms, and how a patient navigator can help support the patient.

In East Hampton, the Real Men Wear Pink cocktail party is set for Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Maidstone Club. Hors d'oeuvres, raffles, and a silent auction will raise money for the Coalition for Women's Cancers, Lucia's Angels, and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased by calling 631-324-0803.

Gurney's Resort in Montauk is hosting a Girls Night Out fund-raiser, also for the Coalition for Women's Cancers, on Oct. 27 from 7 to 10 p.m. In addition to wine, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres, there will be spa treatments, music, and dancing. Lastly, a health fair will be held at the Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton on Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
