Jessica McGroarty-Stevens, a daughter of Jeanne Stevens of Montauk, and Mark Carlson, a son of Mark Carlson of Selden and Sharon and Greg Hayward of Farmingville, were married on June 23 at Dune Beach in Southampton.
The bride’s grandfather Michael Hessler and brother, James McGroarty, both of Montauk, walked her down the aisle. The Rev. Alison Caiola performed the ceremony.
In remembrance of the bride’s father, Jeffery Stevens, wishing lanterns were lit by some of the wedding party during the ceremony.
The maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Olivia Stevens of Montauk. Her cousin Nicole Falkman of Holbrook served as matron of honor. She was also attended by four other bridesmaids.
The groom’s brother, Justin Hayward of Hampton Bays, served as best man. He had nine groomsmen.
The couple met at Ms. Falkman’s wedding in June 2010, where the bride was the maid of honor and Mr. Carlson was the best man.
The bride is a 2003 graduate of East Hampton High School and holds a degree in health education from the State University of New York at Brockport. She is currently studying at Suffolk Community College to become a registered nurse.
Mr. Carlson graduated from Long Island University in Southampton in 2003 with a degree in education, and will graduate from Long Island University at Riverhead in May 2013 with a master’s in special education. He is a teacher at Southampton Intermediate School and coaches boys seventh and eighth-grade lacrosse.
After a wedding trip to Ocho Rios in Jamaica, the couple is back at home in Hampton Bays.
