Crash Sends Bicyclist to Stony Brook

Hit by a car in Springs, New York woman was in critical but stable condition

A New York City woman was critically injured when she was struck by a car while bicycling on Three Mile Harbor Road in Springs a little after noon on Saturday.

East Hampton Town police said Kathryn Jones, 58, was heading north when she was struck by a 2006 Subaru station wagon driven by Antjemaria D. Katcher, 65, of East Hampton, who was also heading north. Ms. Jones was taken first by the Springs Ambulance Company, then Suffolk County medical helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was admitted in what police called critical but stable condition.

The station wagon was impounded by the police for a safety inspection. In a press release on Saturday afternoon, police did not say whether Ms. Katcher had been issued any moving violations.

The accident happened near Gann Road, where Three Mile Harbor Road curves and becomes Three Mile Harbor Hog Creek Road. Visibility is somewhat limited on the curve.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact them at 537-7575.
