On Tuesday evening, after 28 hours, the Coast Guard suspended the search for a fisherman that went missing the day before from a commercial boat 25 miles south of Montauk.

The Coast Guard said the 55-year-old crewmember was last seen aboard the Miss Shauna at 4 p.m. on Monday. He was not wearing a life jacket at that time.

When he failed to report for watch about half an hour later and could not be found on the boat, his crew called for help from the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard units, as well as several fishing vessels, ran 22 search patterns, covering an area over 4,200 square miles. They searched throughout Monday evening and all day Tuesday, finally calling off the search late Tuesday.

The Miss Shauna is a 51-foot commercial fishing vessel homeported in New Bedford, Mass. The crewmember's name has not yet been released.
