The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons will celebrate mixed-breed dogs with a best looking mutt contest on National Mutt Day next Thursday.
Owners of mutts may submit photos of their pooch through ARF's Facebook page, email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or by dropping off a picture at the ARF Adoption Center on 90 Daniels Hole Road in East Hampton.
The canine to win this beauty contest will receive a DNA kit that will tell its owner the exact mix of their dog. Jamie Berger, ARF's director of marketing and communications, said that the results of the DNA kit are "fun to see because what you think is not always the case." ARF will also supply the winner with various ARF swag items, "as well as bragging rights that your dog is the best looking mutt as chosen by ARF‚" Ms. Berger said.
Anyone who wishes to enter the competition must submit a photo to ARF by July 31. A panel of ARF staff members will judge the pictures and announce the best looking mutt on Friday, Aug. 1.
Ms. Berger says ARF wanted to take advantage of National Mutt Day in order to "help promote mutts" and the importance of rescuing and adopting them. "We think they're the best dogs out there," she said.
