Buses Will Replace Trains on Montauk Line This Weekend

The Montauk line east of Speonk will be out of service this weekend, Nov. 10 to 13, as work is completed on the main track. Bus service will be offered between Patchogue and Montauk.

Eastbound riders will board buses at Patchogue for service to their stations and should expect up to 29 minutes additional travel time, according to Long Island Rail Road officials. Westbound riders, from Montauk to Bellport, will board buses at their stations and head to Patchogue, where train service will resume. Westbound buses will depart up to 34 minutes earlier than normal.

On Friday, the 8:36 p.m. and the 11:35 p.m. trains from Babylon will stop at Patchogue, as will the 8:53 from Jamaica. The 9:59 p.m. westbound train from Speonk and the 10:38 p.m. from Montauk will start from Patchogue.

The downtime is expected to last 52 hours. Work is being done on the track to complete a project to install a new, modern signal system on the Montauk branch from that hamlet to Speonk. The $79.1 million project was funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's 2010-2014 capital program with additional funding from the Federal Transit Administration.
