Halloween is only about a week away, and that means pumpkin carvers are hard at work for the annual carving contest put on by the Bridgehampton Lions Club. It begins at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Bridgehampton Community House.

New categories this year include Protest Patch, Extreme Scream, Shadow Puppet Theater, and Dead Bug. Old favorites back again are Instagrin, Compost Zombie, and Classic Jack. It is free to enter, and there is no admission fee to check out the pumpkins on display.

Liz Joyce and Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre will put on a puppet show that night, and the Milk Pail will provide cider and doughnuts. Cash awards ranging from $20 to $250 will be given out. The website bridgehamptonlions.org has more rules, event details, and even a mystery category.
