Richard Hendrickson, 101, at a ceremony where he was honored on Sunday. John White
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration honored Richard G. Hendrickson, a volunteer United States Cooperative weather observer since 1930, for his longstanding service on Sunday.
In a ceremony held at the National Weather Service's weather forecast office in Upton, Mr. Hendrickson, who is 101, was recognized as the first in the program's history to serve for more than eight decades. The Bridgehampton resident has been recording the weather conditions, including wind direction, temperatures, and precipitation, twice a day from his farm in Bridgehampton since he was 18.
A new 80-year service award was named in his honor.
