Kevin V. O’Malley, best known in Sag Harbor as the face of the Our Gig Two store on Main Street, died on Oct. 4 at the age of 63. The cause of death was not given.
“He was an icon on Main Street,” said Denise O’Malley, his wife. “He sat in that chair for 35 years.”
Our Gig Two, the sign of which features a prominent “Whatever” below the name of the shop, specializes in nautical accessories, furniture, brass pieces, and other finds.
Mr. O’Malley was born in Bay Shore on April 1, 1948, the son of Edward O’Malley and the former Veronica Tatarka. After a stint in the Army, he settled in Sag Harbor and opened the store with his mother. She died in 1978, and Mr. O’Malley went on to run it by himself. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and darts.
He married the former Denise Dorego in 1983. They had two daughters, Veronica and Shannon, who survive.
Mr. O’Malley is also survived by a sister, Avé, in Boston, and a brother, Michael, who lives in Connecticut, as well as by 10 nieces and nephews.
“The O’Malley family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all who attended the service at the St. Andrew’s cemetery on Sunday in celebration of Kevin’s life,” Mrs. O’Malley wrote in a statement.
