Florence Velda Flower, a longtime resident of Amagansett, died in Cincinnati last Thursday of complications of Alzheimer’s disease, which she had for two years. She was 88.
The former Florence Udell was born on Jan. 15, 1923, on Shelter Island to Raymond Udell Cullum and the former Florence Charlotte Welch. Her childhood was spent there although she attended East Hampton High School. She and Anthony Stanley Flower were married on Nov. 2, 1946. He died in 1986.
According to her family, Ms. Flower loved to read and was well known at the Amagansett Library. A homemaker, she was devoted to family life and cherished family gatherings and excursions. She lived on Miankoma Lane in Amagansett.
Ms. Flower is survived by a brother, Udell Cullum of East Hampton, and a son, Anthony Stanley Flower Jr. of Amelia, Ohio. She was close to her daughter-in-law, Caroline Flower, and also is survived by two grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Oct. 12 at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton, where Ms. Flower’s ashes were buried. The family has suggested donations in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati, 644 Linn Street, Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.
