Michael Roesel, an ex-chief of the Bridgehampton Fire Department and former Suffolk County fire coordinator, died at home in Bridgehampton last Thursday at the age of 67.
He was also the owner of Michael Roesel Construction in Bridgehampton, which he started more than 34 years ago. When not working, Mr. Roesel was an enthusiastic boater, a fan of Nascar racing, and was “very involved with his grandchildren,” his wife, Barbara Roesel, said.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1943, graduated from East Hampton High School, and married Mrs. Roesel on Jan. 18, 1974.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roesel is survived by three children, Michael Roesel of Bridgehampton, Richard Roesel of Sag Harbor, and Kristen Brabant of Springs. A stepdaughter, Jennifer, and nine grandchildren also survive.
Visiting hours and a wake were held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton on Sunday. A Mass was said at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bridgehampton on Monday, followed by burial in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery in Southampton.
The family has suggested donations in Mr. Roesel’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, Stony Brook University Medical Center, Office of Advancement, Clark House, Stony Brook 11794-4020, or the Bridgehampton Fire Department, P.
