Barbara Ann Norton McNally, who retired from a position as an account administrator with the Dreyfus mutual fund company in Melville to enjoy a life year round in Montauk, died on Oct. 1 at home on Duval Place. She was 77 and had pancreatic cancer, her family said.
Ms. McNally was married twice; first, for 30 years, to Raymond Norton. After Mr. Norton’s death she married Harry McNally, who died in 2009.
She was born Barbara Ann Welsch on March 14, 1935, in Bayside, Queens, to John Welsch and the former Ann Kennedy. She attended St. Agnes High School in Flushing, Queens.
After her retirement she was active in several volunteer roles: at the Montauk Library as a literacy instructor, as a receptionist for Weight Watchers, and as a poll-watcher for the Suffolk Board of Elections. Summers would find her at the beach, which she loved, her family said.
“She was a loving mother who surpassed great odds,” said her daughter Erin Norton of East Marion.
In addition to Ms. Norton, she is survived by four other children, Tara Linge of Center Moriches, Colleen Breenan of Rochester, Patrick Norton of Midland Park, N.J., Terence Norton of Patchogue, and Megan Norton of Long Beach, as well as two brothers, Jack Welsch of Bethpage and Peter Welsch of Florida.
A funeral mass was said at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Montauk on Friday.
Ms. McNally’s family has suggested memorial donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach 11978, or the Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage 11714.
