A resident of Long Beach Lane in Noyac for 27 years, Valerie Romatowski died at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla., on Jan. 3. She was 91.
Mrs. Romatowski was born Valerie Yankocy in Yonkers to Rudolph Yankocy and the former Katherine Shast on June 10, 1920. She was one of five children.
She worked for many years in administrative support roles in the Yonkers public schools. A weekend and vacation house in Noyac became a year-round residence for her and her husband, Alexander Romatowski, after they retired.
Mrs. Romatowski was an enthusiastic golfer, playing until the summer of 2011. She had her first and only hole-in-one when she was 89, her son, Rick Romatowski of Worten, Md., said.
Her sisters, Lillian Harney and Evelyn Grapp, and her brothers, Raymond Yankocy and Ralph Yankocy, died before her, as did her husband and a daughter, Sondra Sabloski. In addition to her son, she is survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours for her will be on Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in that village at 1 p.m.
Her family has suggested memorial donations to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Ameson Avenue, Auberndale, Fla. 33823.
