Barbara G. McArthur of Gulf Stream, Fla., who was born in Southampton and grew up in Bridgehampton, died in Delray Beach, Fla., on Jan. 29. She was 79 and had been ill with cancer for two months.
Ms. McArthur, a homemaker and mother, was married to Duncan T. McArthur, who survives her.
“She loved the good things,” said her stepson Todd McArthur. “She was old-fashioned and loved to set a good table, to send handwritten thank-you notes. Her family was her social circle.”
Ms. McArthur is also survived by four other stepchildren, Jean McArthur-Hishida, Duncan McArthur, Leslie McArthur, and John McArthur, by a son, Donald Kahrs, and a brother, Richard Grubb. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Lorraine Fones, Edwina Faulkner, and Maryanne Collins.
Born to Anthony Grubb and the former Beatrice Spitznagle on March 6, 1932, she attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Sag Harbor and Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. Prior to moving to Florida, she lived in Locust Valley.
A Mass for Ms. McArthur was said at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in East Hampton on Saturday, with burial following at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery.
