Robert F. Anderson

Robert Fredrick Anderson

Robert Fredrick Anderson, a bus driver for the Amagansett School District and a longtime East Hampton fireman, died on Monday at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The cause was cardiac arrest, the family said. He was 69.
Mr. Anderson, who was known as Fred, was born on Dec. 13, 1942, to James Donald Anderson and the former Violet Spencer in Indiana, Pa. He grew up in Homer City, Pa., and attended Laura Lamar High School.
Mr. Anderson met the former Barbara Fraser in Indiana, and followed her back to her native East Hampton when she returned. They married on Oct. 19, 1961, in Jackson Heights. The couple lived in Indiana for eight years, and moved to East Hampton in 1969.
Mr. Anderson worked as an estate manager as well as a bus driver. He “loved all the kids on his bus,” his family wrote, adding that they brought a smile to his face and he to theirs. His family described him as dependable and loving, an unpretentious man who was quick to help others. He was “ever the jokester, endearing himself to many,” they said.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, and served in the East Hampton Fire Department from 1971 to 1989, earning the department’s fireman of the year award several times.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife and three children, Ken Anderson and Rob Anderson, both of East Hampton, and Deneen Anderson of Buffalo. He also leaves four siblings, James Anderson and Maryann Greig, both of Massillon, Ohio, and Donna Windows and Lawerance Anderson, both of Canton, Ohio, as well as 5 grandchildren and 12 nieces.
A wake will be held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Community Bible Church in Sag Harbor, followed by burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton.

To Fred's family, I would like to say how sorry I am for your loss. I grew up with Fred in Coy, PA and though I haven't seen him in many years, I am saddened by his passing. May God give you comfort and happy memories. God Bless you all, Pauletta (Babe)Varholick Fedinick
