Doris J. Slowey, a native East Hamptoner, died at Southampton Hospital, where she had been a patient for a month, on March 20. She was 90.
Mrs. Slowey was born in East Hampton on Aug. 8, 1921, a daughter of Mildred and Wilbur Bennett. She attended the East Hampton schools.
She had been married to James Slowey, who died in the early 1980s. The couple had lived in Southampton, but after her husband’s death, Mrs. Slowey moved to the Oakview Highway trailer park in East Hampton. She later moved to an apartment at the Windmill Village senior citizens complex on Accabonac Road in East Hampton. Two siblings, who survive her, also live there. They are Stanley Bennett and Isabelle Morgan. Three other siblings, Floyd Bennett, Oliver Bennett, and Jessie Histand, died before her.
Mrs. Slowey enjoyed doing needlepoint, a niece, Theresa Cullum, said, and her creations were turned into pillowcases, table runners, and many other items.
Mrs. Slowey was cremated. Her ashes are to be buried in a private ceremony later today at Green River Cemetery in Springs.
The family has suggested memorial donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach 11978.
