“John was a wonderful, loving person who touched many people,” John Patrick Flynn’s brother, William Flynn, said.
Mr. Flynn died on Nov. 20 at Glen Cove Hospital. He was 59 and had Down syndrome.
The Flynn family had a summer house at Maidstone Park, an area of East Hampton that he greatly enjoyed, exploring Folkstone Creek and the Cox’s Fishing Station that was there at one time and the tidal edges of Three Mile Harbor, his brother said.
Mr. Flynn was born on Jan. 10, 1954, in Hollis, Queens, to John Flynn and the former Dorothy Cook. His early years were spent in Floral Park. He later lived in homes for special needs residents in Glen Cove and Syosset.
In addition to his brother, who lives in Woodsburgh, two sisters, Kathleen McGeough of Chatham, N.J., and Maureen Valenti of Alpine, N.J., survive him.
“Those who knew him remembered him,” his brother said. “Those that did not missed out.”
His family held a private service for him, and he was buried in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury on Friday.
