Linda E. Martin, a childhood resident of East Hampton, died surrounded by family and friends on May 1 in Charlotte, N.C., after a four-month battle with a particularly aggressive form of cancer. She was 51.
A United States Navy veteran, Ms. Martin went back to school at the age of 40 after being honorably discharged and graduated from Columbia State Community College in Tennessee with an associate’s degree in applied sciences. She then became a registered nurse, working in Dickson, Tenn., before settling in Charlotte. She most recently worked as a customer service supervisor at Sprint.
A lover of the outdoors, camping, travel, music, and films, her family described her as having a bright and creative mind, bringing “her dry sense of humor to everything she did.”
She was born on June 22, 1961, in Bay Shore to Eugene Martin and the former Helen Avens. Three years later, the family moved to Springs, where her parents continue to live. She attended the Springs School and East Hampton High School.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Martin is survived by a son, Jerry Fiorentino of Wading River. Her brothers, Fred Martin of San Jose, Calif., and James Martin of Riverhead, also survive.
As were her wishes, Ms. Martin’s ashes were spread at sea. The family is planning a celebration in her memory sometime this summer.
