Steven Allan Whitis, who grew up in East Hampton and attended the East Hampton schools through 11th grade, died in Brookhaven Hospital on March 18 of complications from surgery, his family said. He was 68.
A resident of Medford, he ran E-Z Sewer and Drain on Long Island. He ran Stinky Steve’s when he lived in Hancock, N.Y. He had also lived at different times in Setauket and Coram. In his spare time, he enjoyed drawing and building model cars, his family said.
Mr. Whitis was born on Dec. 16, 1945, in Southampton Hospital to Lee Whitis and the former Anna Bennett. His second wife, the former Diane Weber, died in 2007. His first marriage, to Susan DeStefano, ended in divorce.
Mr. Whitis is survived by two sisters, Linda Whitis Brothers of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Elizabeth Gardell Hallet of Newburyport, Mass., and his children, Nicole Villorente of Medford, Christine Ludwig of Bohemia, and Theresa Whitis Ohman and Allan Lee Whitis of Palmer, Alaska.
His funeral was on March 22 at Roland Funeral Home in Patchogue.
