Funeral Service for Dennis O'Grady Scheduled for Friday

A funeral service for Dennis O'Grady of Montauk, who died following a car accident in that hamlet on Sunday afternoon, will be held on Friday. Mr. O'Grady, who was 50, grew up in Northport, and visiting hours will be at the Nolan and Taylor-Howe Funeral Home there from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. According to the funeral home, words of remembrance will be said at about 8 p.m.

Mr. O'Grady was a yacht captain and diesel marine engineer who loved boats, friends said. For 25 years, he lived on the Eskimo, a restored 38-foot Hatteras docked at the Star Island Yacht Club and Marina in Montauk. Most recently, he was living on a 50-foot Gibson houseboat at the Montauk Yacht Club, where he repaired boats.

East Hampton Town police said Mr. O'Grady lost control of the Mercedes-Benz station wagon he was driving at the entrance to Star Island Road at its intersection with West Lake Drive and hit a tree on Sunday around 1 p.m. He died later at Southampton Hospital.

The Nolan and Taylor-Howe Funeral Home is at 5 Laurel Avenue in Northport.
