Paddle-Out for Russell Drumm

Russell Drumm surfing. Dalton Portella

A paddle-out in memory of Russell Drumm will be held at Ditch Plain Beach in Montauk on Saturday at 8 a.m. Mr. Drumm, who died on Jan. 16, was a journalist, author, surfer, sailor, and a founder of the Montauk Oceans Institute at the Montauk Lighthouse. He wrote for The East Hampton Star for more than three decades, and during that time published three books.

The paddle-out will be held at the start of the Rell Sunn surf contest. Parking restrictions will be lifted at all three Ditch Plain lots during the event, meaning that friends and family from out of town can park without an East Hampton Town permit.
