A house under construction in Water Mill went up in flames on Tuesday evening, bringing out firefighters from several fire departments on the South Fork.
The house, located on 7 Ponds Road, was reported to be fully engulfed in flames just after 7 p.m.
Black smoke and flames could be seen miles away from the blaze, with reports that it could be seen from as far away as Montauk and across in Mattituck on the North Fork.
The house was completely destroyed.
The Southampton Fire Department called for help from the Hampton Bays, North Sea, and Sag Harbor Fire Departments. The Bridgehampton Fire Department stood by at Southampton's headquarters.
The Suffolk County Water Authority had to increase the water pressure in the neighborhood to help firefighters douse the flames.
The Southampton Volunteer Ambulance and the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance were called to assess firefighters.
The Southampton Town Fire Marshal's office responded to determine the cause.
