Musical instruments, valued at $3,700, disappeared from the basement of St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Main Street in Amagansett at some time between May 29 and June 1.
Marbel Badilla, the leader of a musical group that practices at the church, told police that several outside groups hold meetings in the basement, and the doors to the church are unlocked during those times. No suspicious activity was observed by Mr. Badilla or the Rev. Martin McGeough, the pastor.
According to Father McGeough, speakers, a guitar, and some amplification equipment were stolen. The musical group performs at prayer meetings in other churches and at Masses. It is sharing instruments belonging to another band while its own are missing in action. “When the other group is using them, they’re out without an instrument,” Father McGeough said.
