Another Hit-and-Run

Carlson Jacobs of East Hampton was walking on Tyrone Drive in Springs in the early evening of Nov. 5 when he was struck by a southbound vehicle which then left the scene. Mr. Jacobs wound up in nearby brush. He was reportedly knocked woozy, according to the police report. Officers brought him to police headquarters and then to Southampton Hospital, suffering what was described as minor bleeding to his head.
East Hampton Town detectives are investigating. It was the second hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in a two-week period. John Judge of Amagansett was struck and killed on Main Street in that hamlet on the evening of Oct. 23. Police are still investigating that incident.
Felix Saldivar of Sag Harbor was illegally passing a car on Oct. 22 at the intersection of Route 114 and Stephen Hand’s Path, according to police,  pulling onto the shoulder, then running a red light. As he did so, he collided with two cars that were crossing the intersection, one driven by John Charleston of Mastic Beach and the other by Julia Astudillo of Amagansett. Ms. Astudillo was taken to Southampton Hospital, complaining of back pain. Police noted the cause of the accident as “traffic control disregard.”
