A 16-year-old East Hampton girl was backing up a 2009 Chevrolet at the recycling center on Springs-Fireplace Road Sunday when the car struck Brian J. King, 62. The young driver did not realize she had hit anyone and continued backing up, forcing Mr. King, who had fallen to the ground, to roll away from the rear tire, which was coming at him. He suffered several injuries, according to police, but declined medical attention at the scene.
The teenager was accompanied by an adult in the car, police reported.
Louis C. McDonald, 76, of Montauk was pulling out of his driveway last Thursday morning when he inadvertently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, launching his car across Old West Lake Drive, through a neighbor’s fence, and into a tree. Mr. McDonald suffered cuts to his right leg and was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment.
East Hampton Town police also reported five separate incidents last week of deer running into the road and being hit by cars. Four of the five occurred between 4:53 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. as darkness descended. The fifth was at 2 in the afternoon.
