Gloria Sanchez of Montauk was westbound on Montauk Highway in a 2006 Honda Friday morning when, she told police, she felt “light-headed.” She passed out near the intersection of Wainscott Northwest Road, losing control of the car, which veered off into the woods.
The Honda was not totaled, but was towed away after Ms. Sanchez was taken to Southampton Hospital, complaining of chest pains. The car’s undercarriage and driver’s-side front end were damaged, with repairs estimated to be less than $1,000.
Lorelle Reid, 19, of Chicago was driving north on Two Holes of Water Road, East Hampton, in a 2013 Ford Suburban, rented from Hertz, at 5:30 on the morning of June 10, when she lost control of the car rounding a curve and crashed into a tree near Whooping Hollow Road. There were five other young women in the car with her at the time, three of whom were taken to Southampton Hospital, complaining of pain.
The police report indicates driver inexperience as the most probable cause of the accident.
