Car thieves with expensive tastes have targeted Wainscott in recent weeks, with at least three automobiles reported stolen since the end of June.
A 2012 black Range Rover was stolen from a driveway on Two Rod Highway in the early morning hours of June 29. The owners told East Hampton Town police the car had been left unlocked overnight, with the keys in the center console.
The next theft happened on Pierson Way, where a 2013 Mercedes-Benz disappeared last Thursday. Randi Sidikaro told police she had last seen the gray Benz the night before, but it was gone when she awoke at 6 a.m. The car was valued at $75,000.
A 2003 Cadillac that was stolen from the driveway of a Wainscott Northwest Road house on Friday night was later involved in an accident in Southampton Village. Southampton police who spoke with the owner, Felicia Coffey, told her that the car’s two occupants ran away after the accident. They are still being sought.
