Acupuncturist Accused of Sexual Abuse

A Noyac acupuncturist was arrested on Saturday for alleged sexual abuse of a patient, the Southampton Town police said Wednesday.

Micheal P. Gohring, 64, of Noyac was arrested at his office at 3297 Noyac Road in Noyac, the police said, "after a patient had disclosed that he had sexually abused her during an appointment." He was charged with aggravated sexual abuse, a felony that carries guaranteed prison time if he is convicted.

According to his website, where he goes by the first name Mikal, Mr. Gohring has practiced Chinese medicine for 24 years and has been a licensed New York State acupuncturist for 19. He was, "voted Best of the Best Acupuncturist in the Hamptons by Dan's Papers' readers poll in 2008, 2009, and 2011," according to his site.

He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court Sunday morning. Bail was set at $20,000, which has since been met, according to the Suffolk County jail records.
