Gerard Larsen Durell Godfrey

A member of the Independence Party, Gerard Larsen is on the Republican and Conservative Party tickets. Mr. Larsen, who is known as Jerry, recently retired from the East Hampton Village Police Department, where he was chief for 13 years.

East Hampton is in serious need of leadership that will listen, he told residents at an environmental forum last month, and he is that leader. Multiple police unions and coalitions have endorsed his candidacy. He and his running mates have more management experience and proven records than their Democratic opponents, he said.

Mr. Larsen has said that the town should appeal to members of Congress to make a beach-replenishment plan for Montauk a priority. He supports the policy position of Paul Giardina, his running mate on the Republican ticket, of utilizing the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund to pay for water-quality remediation efforts including replacement of failing septic systems, rather than the community preservation fund. The Clean Water fund is a federal grant program that provides loans to eligible recipients.

Mr. Larsen is critical of what he says is the town board’s inaction on a municipal septic system for downtown Montauk, and opposes the proposed South Fork Wind Farm as it is envisioned at present.

He lives in East Hampton.
