Paul Giardina is a nuclear engineer by training and was with the Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 Office of Indoor Air and Radiation in New York City before his retirement in 2016. He has a degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree, also in nuclear engineering, from New York University’s Institute of Environmental Medicine. Before joining the E.P.A., he worked for Consolidated Edison, the New York City and Westchester power and heating utility. He is a former director of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection hazardous waste management program.

On Long Island, Mr. Giardina was involved in overseeing certain projects at Brookhaven National Laboratory, including handling nuclear wastes and spill remediation. He has made water protection, affordable housing, job creation, and opioid abuse prevention centerpieces of his campaign for town board. He appears on the Conservative, Republican, and Reform ballot lines.

He has had a house in East Hampton since the 1970s and operated the Springs General Store from 1983 to 1986.
