Councilman Peter Van Scoyoc, who would like to step up as East Hampton Town supervisor, is the deputy town supervisor. He was elected to the town board in 2011, following six years on the town’s planning board and five years on the zoning board of appeals, the last year as its chairman. Previously, he operated a residential construction company and charter fishing business.

In the campaign, he has pointed to the town board’s environmental record, including the preservation of hundreds of acres of open space and its work to implement water-quality remediation efforts. The Democratic Party-dominated town board has accomplished much, he said, including completion of a wastewater management plan, establishment of a community oyster garden program, restoration of historically significant structures, and the securing of grant funding for energy sustainability and resiliency, land acquisition, public parking, and crosswalk safety.

Mr. Van Scoyoc supports the proposed South Fork Wind Farm, as well as local control of East Hampton Airport and what he called reasonable restrictions on activity there. The board has also restored civility and respect at Town Hall, he said. He lives in Northwest Woods. He is running on the Democratic, Independence, and Working Families lines.
