Richie Daunt, 23, of Montauk, who trains at the Long Island Boxing Gym in Huntington with Eddie Haeffer, is to fight in a 141-pound Pure Breed tournament novice bout tomorrow at the Worldwide Boxing Gym in the Bronx at 3134 Jerome Avenue. The weigh-ins are at 5:30 p.m.; the matches begin at 6:30.
Another local boxer, Luis Mancilla, a 2011 Golden Gloves finalist who is 21 years old, is to vie in a Pure Breed open division 132-pound bout at the Worldwide Boxing Gym on Dec. 14. Mancilla trains at the Westbury Boxing Club.
Danielle Waleko, a senior at Drew University in Madison, N.J., and Ashley West, a sophomore at Susquehanna (Pa.) University, have been named to all-region teams — Waleko in field hockey and West, who placed 33rd among 690 entrants in the national Division III race, in women’s cross-country.
In addition, Kim Valverde, the libero on Hillsborough Community College’s women’s volleyball squad in Tampa, Fla., and her teammates recently placed third in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s tournament after having won state, district, and conference championships. Valverde, a 2011 East Hampton High School graduate, reportedly hopes to transfer to Tampa University next fall.
And, further, Brandon West, Ashley’s brother, Messiah College’s men’s soccer goalie, is again playing in the N.C.A. A. tournament this week. Messiah is the defending Division III champion.
