B & R, a 7-on-7 team of mostly Maidstone Market players put together by John Romero, and the defending champion, Hampton F.C.-Bill Miller, managed by Duvan Castro, came out of Monday’s Simon Gavron men’s soccer tourney pool play on Shelter Island as the leaders among the tournament’s eight entries.
The above-named teams each ended the first round of play with five wins, no losses, two ties, and 17 points.
The single-elimination final round games are to be played at Fiske Field Monday, beginning at 5 p.m.
Following B & R and Bill Miller in the standings are SG United, which won in 2010, at 3-2-2; FC Outsiders, at 2-2-3; Bateman Painting, which won in 2009, at 2-3-2; Wooden House, at 1-3-3; Gulluscio Storage, at 1-4-2, and Sunset Beach, at 0-5-2.
The tournament, whose 12-minute games add to the excitement, is in its 11th year.
