Dana Cebulski had hoped to make the indoor state track meet this winter, but, according to the girls coach, Shani Cuesta, the bad weather and nerves conspired against her, as well as the fact that one of the treadmills in East Hampton High School’s weight room was broken.
“She’s a distance runner and she needs those miles — because of all the bad weather she didn’t get them,” said Cuesta in recounting Cebulski’s 1,000 and 1,500-meter results (she placed seventh in the 1,000 and finished out of the running in the 1,500) from last weekend’s state qualifier meet.
Cuesta added that she hoped to get the school’s strength and conditioning coach, Erik Fredrickson, to work with Cebulski in the near future. “We’ve got to move on,” Cuesta said. “Dana is a junior and still has another year to make the state indoor meet. It will be a quick turnaround to the spring season. Our first spring track meet will be at Miller Place on March 19!”
“None of the boys made it to the states,” Cuesta added. Erick Engstrom, one of the boys team’s top performers, apparently has been sidelined lately with a stress fracture.
