There will be an ice show, at 1:15 p.m., a barbecue, and a Katy’s Courage skate-a-thon, at 4, at the Buckskill Winter Club here on Saturday, March 8.
Joanne Doran, the club’s manager, said of the ice show, “There will be at least 50 young skaters and their coaches [one of whom, Claire Belhumeur, recently took first place in the Empire State Games’ pre-preliminary ladies’ figure-skating competition at Lake Placid] . . . there will be half a dozen solos. . . . It will be a big day for Buckskill.”
Another of Buckskill’s young coaches, Brittni Svanberg, has been accepted at Boston University, Doran said.
A bake sale that day will benefit the Katy’s Courage fund, named after the late Katy Stewart, which is, according to a flier, “dedicated to education, support, and pediatric cancer research.”
Skate-a-thon participants have been asked to register and to collect pledges online at Katyscourage.dojiggy.com. According to a flier, registration will be $20 per participant if pledges have been collected before the event, $35 if pledges have not been collected.
Registration will include skate rental, the flier says, and adds that “100 percent of the proceeds will go to Katy’s Courage.”
Sections of ice sponsorships are also available, according to the flier.
