The East End Tomahawks, the Brookaven Fall League’s under-10 champions, are to play in a Veterans Day weekend tournament in Aberdeen, Md.

Under-10 Champs

A team of under-10-year-old baseball players from Montauk, Springs, and East Hampton that Kenny Dodge, Nicole Dickinson, Mark Locascio, and Steve Puglia have been coaching in the Brookhaven Fall League has won it all.

Finishing as divisional champs at 4-2, the East End Tomahawks, as they are known, went on to defeat the Long Island Sharks 9-8 in eight innings and the Centereach Chiefs 12-5 in Final Four tournament games played Saturday.

The roster comprises Zachary Dodge, Jack Dickinson, Carter Dickinson, Nico Horan-Puglia, Michael Locascio, Milo Tompkins, Patrick Farrell, Kirean Conlon, Cassius Hokanson, Cassius Muse, and Isaac Rodriguez.

The team is to play in the Wounded Warrior wood bat 11-and-under tournament at Cal Ripken’s baseball camp in Aberdeen, Md., over the Veterans Day weekend.

“The kids have really enjoyed this, and, hopefully, this is the start of something that will grow,” the elder Dodge wrote in an email. “We could have multiple teams playing in this league in the future.”

Rugby Road Loss

The Montauk Rugby Club was to have played Rockaway at East Hampton’s Herrick Park Saturday, “but, because we allegedly used an ineligible player in our first game, the league made us play away,” Charlie Collins explained in an email Tuesday.

The Sharks lost that game 39-12, “but we were missing four of our starters and a lot of people had to play out of position for the entire game.”

As a result, Rockaway improved to 5-0 and Montauk dropped to 3-1-1 in Division III play. Three games remain — versus the New York Rugby Club on Randalls Island on Saturday, at home with the Suffolk R.C. on Oct. 29, and at Rockaway on Nov. 12.
